october 1
It's around the time of Amanda's birthday and her brother had died. I go into a store where she worked, looking for a sympathy card but they didn't have any. It was a beauty supply store, and they really only had birthday cards. It's really crowded and I'm about to leave when everyone else does, all at once, leaving me in the store with the manager and two stock-people. As I'm looking around, the manager gets a call and I can tell it's from Amanda, telling the manager about her brother. At the same time, the stockboy (who is blond with some kind of European accent) asks if he can use a certain exit to go into the parking lot or if it's for emergencies only. I tell him he can use it, and he leaves. I can see from the sky outside that it's sunset. I go home and send Amanda an e-mail birthday card, and we're talking through webcams so I can see her reaction when she gets it, and she starts to cry. Her mother comes along and says it's okay to celebrate her birthday even though her brother has died. Amanda and I go to see a movie we helped produced. It's called "Cars" and it's about these two friends who drive into a construction zone and start getting attacked by the other (driverless) vehicles. We're sitting with George and laughing a lot. Peter is sitting in the row in front of us and keeps turning around to look at us. I'm walking around my old neighorhood with George, and it's definitely fall. All the leaves are brown and blowing everywhere in this really cold wind. Cold or not, we are both also eating ice cream. I'm having the Pink Panther ice cream on a stick I like, and it starts to melt really quickly so I have to eat what's left in one huge bite. We're walking down the middle of the street and a cop passes by behind us, and I worry for a second about getting in trouble for jaywalking or something.
