I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm getting sick, and I'm fighting like all hell to keep that from happening. My first order of business tomorrow will be to buy a million bottles of Odwalla Vitamin C monster drinks and promptly drink them all. Assuming that the store is open, of course. What closes on Easter, and what stays open? We're not doing anything this year (we usually do) so I was toying with the idea of shopping.

This week was all work, work, work. Although I did go to dinner with LT on Wednesday and saw DM and MB for coffee (in my case, chai) on Thursday. I also ran (and by ran I mean drove) down to Starbucks today for a drink before I started dinner, and they sprinkled cinnamon on top of my chai. I've never had it with that before, but will now insist upon it. Yum!

My dinner wasn't too bad, either. Fettucine (a mixture of "regular" and spinach), asparagus, bell pepper and mini chicken-apple sausages. I just finished what was left as a midnight snack... okay, nine o'clock snack, whatever.

What else? My walking partner and I actually went for a walk last night for the first time in weeks. It's so nice to have it still be light out into the evening. I'm definitely ready for more warm, sunny weather, though a couple of days have been surprisingly hot. Hot enough for me to invest in some sunscreen (I know, supposed to use it all year long, whatever), which I'm fairly vigilant about after getting a bad sunburn a couple years ago.

Okay, the right arm of my desk chair just came off. It's been wobbling for weeks, but I keep forgetting to tell my dad to fix it. Yes, I am totally helpless when it comes to furniture, insects and cars, but I'd rather remain ignorant about such things.

Abrupt change of subject: My job drives me nuts most of the time, but I'm really going to miss the people when I'm gone. At times, things can get absurdly fun (emphasis on absurd) around the office. My boss almost made me die one day this week when he was telling all these Viagra-related jokes while on a conference call with this old dude - only I didn't realize at first that he was pressing the mute button while saying them. You kinda had to be there, but it was kind of hilarious.

You know what I love? Quotes that, when taken out of context, are extremely weird. For your reading pleasure, some things heard around the office since I returned in January:

"But I figured you'd know a lot about whipping."

"So is he a tranny or what?"

"I'm glad you're here, because I need help with something and I didn't want to ask the girls."
"Um, do you want me to close the office door?"

"Do you think this e-mail sounds too bitchy?"
"No, I think it sounds just bitchy enough."

"We have to get these files over to Numbnuts."
"Which one?"

"You smell so good!"

"Why is my box full of rocks?"

"You're young enough to have a daughter as old as me!"

"I always bought him the cheese he likes."

Okay, so apparently I've lied here in my blog again, this time about two things:

1. My quitting caffeinated drinks lasted all of two days. That's about two days longer than I expected it to last. In fact, I'm right now pondering driving at an alarmingly high speed down to the nearest Starbucks to try a honey latte... whatever that is.

2. I brought some work home with me - but only two hours worth, I swear! Hey, it was either that or staying late on Friday.

Other blah blah:

I've been dreaming more at night, but not remembering much because I neglect to write it down. I know I had one where about half of my tattoo had been smeared off, and I was really pissed. I was glad to wake up and find it still there.

Really - it strikes me at the weirdest times that this thing will be on my skin forever. I'm not at all sorry I got it done, but it's as if I can't really believe that I did it. I want it to hurry up and heal so I can show it off. Though I'm now kind of addicted to the scent of H2Ocean foam.

I keep seeing commercials for Edible Arrangements, and am impatiently waiting for a reason to send one to somebody.

I've got music in my car again! That improves the beginning of workdays by about a million. If only gas prices would cooperate, I might actually enjoy my commute.

While getting groceries the other night, I found a travel-sized version of a game that we had as kids. I don't remember whether it belonged to my siblings and I or whether it was one of the million games kept and my grandparents' house for all the kids, but I always found it amusing.

Fishing Game

Just to be dumb and nostalgic, I bought the travel-sized one, but it's kind of... well... crappy. You have to wind it up for about ten years for it to run for 30 seconds, and it starts off at a crazy-ass speed before slowing down to not-quite-moving. I suppose that might be why it was in the 50% off bargain bin (love that bin!)

Yesterday I went out to run some errands, and because I wanted a loose shirt that wouldn't rub my arm, wore an old pink one that used to be a "regular" shirt but was recently demoted to a "night" shirt. It doesn't really look sloppy (...much) but I just felt like everyone knew I was wearing something that are supposed to be pajamas. I've never been a pajamas in public person. I can never decide whether I hate or admire the people who do it, but I definitely draw the line at slippers. Yuck.

One of the places I went: Mervyn's, where I actually found some clothes for once! I guess they're finally getting their shit back together after months of terrible (and terribly unorganized) merchandise. I had this little "20% off 20 items" card and used it to get some shirts, underwear (yay pretty colors!) and a ring. It's sterling silver with a small, purplish-black, diamond-shaped stone. It's purdy.

Every time I blog lately, I feel as if I ought to apologize for it not being that interesting. But that'd be like apologizing for my life, which I don't think is necessary. Explanations, maybe, but apologies? Nah. Yet.

A little bit of background, which you may or may not find interesting (I'm betting not):

On September 23, 2005, I wrote in my blog the following:

"Why are people always wetting themselves over the Killers? Jesus, they're almost as overrated as the White Stripes."

And on March 11, 2008 (aka today), I said:

"I'm going to go get a tattoo for my favorite band!"

My Tattoo

But I still stand behind everything bad I've ever said about the White Stripes! (Oh, and please ignore the rest of my fat arm.)

Seriously, though; I almost never change my mind about anything. So I figure that The Killers, who first annoyed me to death with "Somebody Told Me," deserve some kind of commemoration for winning me over so thoroughly.

In non-tattoo news, I was pestered tonight by the most obnoxious teenage boy outside of Target. He had one of those petitions to get Proposition Blah Blah Blah on the ballot and I'm all, "I don't sign my name for anything I haven't done my own research on." He then got pissy and said, "You're not voting for it, it's just a petition. Do you know what that is?"

And I said, "I know what a petition is. Do you know what distraction-free shopping is?" and pointed to the sign indicating such. He then argued that I was only walking into the store, not actually shopping yet. Smartass.

He also said something irritating when I left but I just thought, "Whatevs, you're not bringing me down off my tattoo high!" Oh, yeah - his petition was about some measure that increases penalties for gang-related crimes. Like normal people, I'm against crime of any kind, but that kid was almost infuriating enough to make me change my mind.

The weather has been so beautiful the last few days that having to work in a windowless office all day has been just a drag. I went to the post office this morning to mail a package and was so tempted (more than usual) to just not go back! Ha.

Okay, so I lied - I went into work today. I had a super lovely weekend that managed to be both busy and relaxing. Normally I'd think that was oxymoronic, but it worked out well.

When SC remembered that I was supposed to be gone today, she asked why and I said (very good naturedly) "Because I have way too much shit to do." She kind of laughed and said, "It's not like the office is going to fall apart." Excellent point! I mean, I'm not a doctor or lawyer or (insert any job with actual emergencies). Her saying that was a good reminder to me to not stress over stuff the way I tend to do. One thing I definitely didn't lie about: bringing work home. Forget that mess.

My eating habits have been not-so-great lately, but today I did quite well. You know, until I ruined it with the large bowl of Cap'n Crunch I had just awhile ago. I don't regret it; it was so tasty, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I'm quitting soda again. And chai! How will Starbucks survive without me? Oh, I have a feeling they'll be just fine.

I somehow restrained myself from crying during the series finale of "The Wire" last night. I almost lost it at two particular points: Bubbles' sister letting him come up from the basement for dinner (aw!), and Dukie shooting up (insert Principal Skinner-esque "NO!" here). Though I'm totally bummed that we'll never see another new episode, I'm also glad that they didn't wear out their welcome the way most shows do (or at least try to). The only thing worse than a great series ending too soon is it dragging on into meaningless plots that no one cares about and you're almost sorry you became a fan in the first place. Um, not like that's happened to me with a lot of shows or anything.

Whew, am I sleepy! Even though it's only 9:30. Which is really only 8:30 because of the time change. But since I got up at 6:00, that means I actually got up at 5:00, which means... yeah, I'm done.

Latest obsessions of mine:

- Those mozzarella cheese logs with basil and prosciutto inside. I bought one and some sesame crackers at Raley's yesterday, and plan on devouring said items sometime this weekend.

- The Flickr Song Chart Pool. Mostly, I love how smart I feel when I figure one out.

- Trying to choose my first tattoo.

Numbers:

- Money I'll have spent at Starbucks this week, including when I get a chai tomorrow morning, but not including tips: $15.20. Whoops!

- Days until "The Wire" series finale: 3. Ack!

- Days until "Prison Break" season four: Too many!

Stuff I'm doing this weekend:

- Finding a new stereo for my car if it kills me.

- Going to a farmer's market with LS.

- Not going into the office on Monday. Perfect ending!

Recent pet peeves of mine:

- People who park in spaces that are not, in fact, actual parking spaces. Latest case in point: Half an hour ago, I was using the ATM at my bank when this older guy pulls up in a pickup truck and parks in the fire lane. I would have been less annoyed if he'd (even wrongfully) parked in the handicapped space, which he was blocking anyway by parking at the curb. Grr.

- People who turn left when they have red arrows just because no one is coming from the opposite direction. Didn't these people go to kindergarten and learn about taking turns?

- People who don't know how to mind their own business. No explanation necessary.

We had a "girls day" at my house yesterday, and it was pretty cool. DM and LM were the first to show, and we got all involved in playing "Marry, Date or Dump." Good times. LS and MB also joined in when they arrived, and eventually we tore ourselves away to have dinner. LS made a yum salad and brought this Goddess salad dressing from Trader Joe's that I would like to go swimming in. I made a vegetarian version of a sausage dish I first made a month or so ago. It involved soy sausages (good flavor, but I wasn't fond of the texture), honey, fresh orange juice, mangos and peaches. Yum. I never got around to making the dessert I had planned, but MB brought a ginormous bearclaw from Raley's. Chomp!

Also, I was a bad hostess and kicked everyone's butt playing "TV SceneIt." Hey, I can't help being a couch potato.

I stayed up late (until 11:30... shut up, that's late for old ladies such as moi) doing stuff for work, and have also being doing assignments off-and-on today. I have so many projects going on that I literally can't get them done, which I think my boss has finally figured out. Besides starting the search for our new person now, which I think I mentioned last entry, we're having a temp come in tomorrow. I should probably also mention that said temp is my cousin AG. Say whatever else you want about nepotism, but it can certainly be convenient if you're on the verge of exhaustion like I am. Plus, I figure it's rather fitting considering that it's a business owned by two brothers.

Right now I'm craving that this cheese that I bought for (and that got finished) yesterday. It was this little rolled up log of mozzarella with prosciutto and basil inside. I could have eaten that entire thing myself! I'm basically obsessed with anything that's one food stuffed inside another food.
